Lethbridge Community Bingo Association is a 100% non-profit organization that was incorporated under the Societies Act on July 25, 1985. It is made up of 34 Non-profit charities with the majority of its proceeds benefiting the youth and seniors of Lethbridge and surrounding area. Our clubs also reach out to at minimum an additional 50 non-profit organizations. Our clubs range from three (3) senior citizen organizations, fourteen (14) charities that are strictly involved with the development of the youth through sports programs or education and self-improvement programs, six (6) Health-related charities, ten (10) service clubs, and one (1) Historical Education Program.
Here is a brief breakdown on the above charities:
Senior Citizens
Lethbridge Senior Citizens, Nord-Bridge Seniors, and Hungarian Old Timers are the seniors organizations that benefit from our Association. Some of the programs that are offered at these organizations are supervision for Adult Daycare, exercise programs, Arts, crafts, computer programs, dances and shop facilities are only a few of the programs offered to our Seniors. Counseling and education and assistance for Heart & Stroke, Alzheimer’s and Senior Abuse Programs and mental health services are also provided. Support for representation for Lethbridge for Senior Games on Provincial levels is also possible. Due to the funds that are raised through the bingo events worked by the seniors they are able to enhance these and many more programs offered to the seniors of Lethbridge.Youth Development and Sport Programs
Lethbridge Synchrobelles Synchronized Swimming Club, Lethbridge Diving Club, Lethbridge Ringette, Lethbridge Rugby Club, Lethbridge Scouts, Westwinds Gymnastics, Lethbridge American Legion Baseball, Lethbridge 5 Pin Bowlers Association, Southern Alberta Competitive Swimming Association, Little League Baseball District 51, Lethbridge Navy League, Lethbridge Minor Hockey, YMCA, and Prairie Baseball Academy Society. All of these programs are focused on youth development. Without the assistance of the funds raised through bingo events, many of these programs would not be affordable for parents. We all know the importance of keeping our youth active, and through programs such as those listed above we are also teaching our youth to be leaders in our community. Many of these programs make it possible for Lethbridge to have representation on both a provincial and in some cases, a National level. It allows most parents affordable fees and it helps teach our youth the importance of self-worth and pride in themselves, their organizations and the city they are representing.Health-Related Charities
Inclusion Lethbridge Association, Canadian Ski Patrol System, Kidney Foundation, Southern Alcare Society, Safe Havens Women’s Shelter and Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association. These clubs provide support and education to the residence of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta. Southern Alcare is a recovery home for individuals dealing with addictions. Without programs such as these available in Lethbridge the citizens requiring them would have to go to the larger health centers, such as Calgary which is not a possibility for many of them.Historical Education
Great Canadian Plains Railway Society owns and manages the Galt Historic Railway Park located 1 kilometer north of the Village of Stirling. The Railway Park collects, preserves, restores, exhibits and interprets artifacts which represent the history and social impact of the “steam” era (1880 – 1940) in southern Alberta, with emphasis on the Galt Railway System and the 1890 International Train Station Depot which was situated on the border between Coutts, Alberta / Sweetgrass, Montana. The money raised from bingo events helps the Society to maintain the historic Train Station, help develop railway-themed exhibits and develop/implement programs for school groups/day camps to raise the public awareness of this unique historic landmark.Service Clubs
